Magdalena Pokrzywa, Dorota Rynkowska

Abstract

The aim of the paper is to present the role women's organizations in women’s empowerment in Poland. Women empowerment refers to increasing and improving the social, economic, political and legal strength of the women. Its aim is to ensure equal-right to women, and to make them confident enough to claim their rights. Empowering women as economic, political, and social actors can change policy choices and make institutions more representative of a range of voices. Empowering women to participate fully in economic, social and political life is essential to build stronger economies, achieve internationally agreed goals for development and sustainability, and improve the quality of life for women, men, families and communities. Processes of women's activation on their own behalf and formation of women’s organization are extremely complex and subject to differing courses, depending on the specific conditions existing in particular countries. The political and social activity of Polish women is largely conditioned by national history and the hierarchy of values in Polish society. Polish women’s organization face many barriers to development and problems in their daily operation. The paper will be based on empirical research which had a qualitative and quantitative nature. The quantitative research was carried out by the IDI technique  (Individual in-depth interview) with 30 representatives of women’s organization from whole area of Poland. The quantitative research was carried out by the CATI technique (Computer Assisted Telephone Interview) with 100 representatives of women’s organization.
